hamilton drives real grand prix car – remotely via cell phone
Posted on | May 8, 2009 | 1 Comment
not bad! “Vodafone teamed up with the Formula One team Mercedes McLaren to promote the new BlackBerry Storm, purpose-built for Vodafone. The phone holds an abundance of multimedia capabilities, which were the focus for the video. The guys at BlackBerry built a small remote controlled race car and used the BlackBerry for steering. They then took it to the McLaren crew and let Lewis Hamilton drive a genuine Grand Prix car with the remote. The idea is very original and demonstrates the potential for multimedia integration today. The video produced more than 1.4 million views within the first six weeks.”

iphone swine flu tracker
Posted on | May 2, 2009 | No Comments
for all those who are concerned about the swine flu, there might be an iphone app coming out soon, tracking what’s going on. i wonder a little what all the fuzz is about though since the director of the cdc said in his news conference that the cdc estimates that 36000 people die every year in the states of flu related causes. he? what? ok, how many people died sofar of swine flu in the states? one. hmmm. anyways, think this is a good example of people reacting creatively and quickly to what goes on in the world.

“A potential app, the Swine Flu Tracker, may be on the way. The Swine Flu Tracker, still pending approval from Apple, would be free. It was developed by IntuApps, whose founders, Barry Schwartz and Lilly Gold, say they want to keep people informed about the virus and where it is spreading.
“Just being able to have the information with you on the go is a powerful tool for people,” Gold told CNN. The Swine Flu Tracker’s first tab shows the current threat level – Phase 5 – and brief description from the World Health Organization.
The next feature, likely the most useful, is a map that tracks where the virus is spreading in relation to the user via a “locate me” button. Each pin that pops up on the map offers details about confirmed and suspected flu cases. The data comes from a Google Maps RSS feed.
A third tab provides virus facts and flu symptoms from the Centers for Disease Control, Wikipedia and other sources. The last screen, Alerts, is a consolidated triad of Twitter updates from the World Health Organization, the CDC and HealthMap.
Schwartz submitted Swine Flu Tracker on Thursday and said Apple typically takes a week or two to approve new apps before they are released. Given the urgency of the swine flu outbreak, maybe they’ll move more swiftly on this one.” seen on CNN

imagine the possibilities

the research group touch explored the possibilities of attaching an RFID reader to an iphone. if the phone then gets close to an RFID tag attached to certain objects, different actions or windows are triggered on the phone.
in the experiment, the creators linked favorite videos, ads, and their podcasts to individual toys that could represent objects at a store, on the street or wherever.

louis vuitton gets designed QR code
Posted on | April 17, 2009 | 3 Comments
tokyo based creative agency SET is specialized in marketing solutions that combine design and technology. for louis vuitton SET designed a QR (quick response) code. QR Codes are the bar codes of the future, linking online and physical graphics to websites and multi-media.
the QR code is an extension of the continuing partnership between louis vuitton and famed japanese animator takashi murakami who in 2008 made time magazine’s “100 most influential people” list.
the QR code is meant to generate traffic to the louis vuitton mobile website, create buzz (like here), demonstrate the possibilities of designer QR codes and raise awareness of the potential role of QR codes in marketing.
since i got a lot of reader feedback that the code doesn’t work i want to add the following statement from set.
“the LV QR code was meant for domestic use only. consequently in the testing of the code we conducted trials using handsets from the three phone companies, au, docomo and softbank.
we literally did not have the time to test it using phones used overseas and there really didn’t seem to be too much point. japanese phones are equipped with higher grade lenses and upgraded software to deal with issues such as macro settings etc. this account for some of the reading issues abroad.”

would call this QR code from BBC software engineer duncan robertson an early attempt to design a QR code by incorporating the BBC logo. due to an error margin of 30% while still being readable this was possible.

michel gondry’s website claims he will personally draw a portrait of yours for $19.95 (you can pay via paypal) once you submitted your photo via his website and payed. delivery time is 6-8 weeks.
taking in account how many fans he has i wonder if he ran out of money and i question if he’d seriously be able to draw that many portraits in 6-8 weeks.
in any event, fun site, check it out here.

those who participate will definitely send the movie around a lot and spread the word. so, the marketing guys from proximus tagged themselves as innovative, part of the new generation, fun and make their customers and target groups to brand ambassadors.

klamauk – or hullabaloo, in a good way
Posted on | April 6, 2009 | No Comments
check out the music label klamauk (which basically means hullabaloo) from mainz, germany. founded by tilman schwarz, michael fluhr and karsten brommenschenkel in august 2008. the label focuses on techno and house (or as they’d describe it: microfunk) releases.
not only do i actually like the music but the guys running the show came up with a cool web device. because the first vinyl release was a black and white print with individual hand coloration from each artist the guys from klamauk wanted to keep the individual element to their releases alive even for mp3 cover art. the website was realized by euro rscg 4d in duesseldorf, germany.
design your cover at klamauk.net/digital and listen to their music at juno or itunes.
