talking about amazing footage…

Posted on | December 19, 2010 | No Comments

…here are a couple more. For the first one, it get’s really good after the first minute. The second one is a promo video but has some amazing footage as well and it gives you a good idea about what kind of content we’ll see on youtube and co the coming month and years, pretty powerful tool for kids going crazy.

the dark side of the lens

Posted on | October 2, 2010 | No Comments

“… Something that offers insight into what it takes to grind out a living as a water-based photographer in the surfing industry: a short experimental glimpse at a life lived in the shadow of obsessive photographic pursuits.”

Mickey Smith worked with Allan Wilson from the Astray Collective, who acted as Director of Photography on the project. Together they logged hours of footage across the Atlantic coastline, traveling around Ireland, Cornwall and Manchester. Shot in Super 16mm film, as well as groundbreaking work with Canon 5D mk11 Digital SLR, Smith also projected images of the huge walls of water within which he works, on to monster urban landscapes such as sky rises and castles in Manchester, as well as the cliff lines at his home of Ireland.”

observing the masses

Posted on | June 29, 2009 | 1 Comment

well, massimo vitali is not a guy who puts his vacation photos on the web but an interesting photographer who loves observing the masses while, in most cases, they get fried in the sun. looks delicious, made me hungry for more and actually his portfolio is a pretty interesting collection of human fries.

200 gallon water tank landscape photography

Posted on | May 20, 2009 | No Comments

pretty cool and definitely a different kind of landscape photography. the artist kim keever’s large-scale photographs are created by meticulously constructing miniature topographies in a 200-gallon tank, which is then filled with water. these dioramas of fictitious environments are brought to life with colored lights and the dispersal of pigment, producing ephemeral atmospheres that he quickly captures with his large-format camera.

plastic bags like silk dresses

Posted on | May 3, 2009 | No Comments

wow, take a look at how poetic these prints look like, almost as if they were a modern still-life painting. the chinese artist huang xu takes shreds of used plastic bags and makes 3d scans, then takes the scan data and turns them into 3d models, illuminates them and makes prints of it. pretty amazing if you think about turning one of the cheapest products on earth, a simple plastic bag into a silk dress impression – a metaphor of the old and new china.

peter funch

Posted on | April 29, 2009 | No Comments

check out the portfolio of photographer peter funch. not sure what i think about his “crash” series but it definitely stood out. most of his other stuff is good and fun photography just with less stopping power. i didn’t expect this stuff after seeing his other images first. and as somewhat disturbing as these images are there is oddly enough a fashionable aspect to the aesthetics.

japanese topography

check out these amazing topography images of japanese landscapes done by hajime ishikawa. think they are beautiful and poetic in a very simple and graphical way. i am amazed, not that i’d be into topography that much but i’d definitely hang these up on my walls.
